Graham Nash was sitting on the other side of Joni. They were all headed up to Big Bear (a few hours east of LA, into the desert then into the mountains above San Bernardino) to shoot the inside cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash.

I’m not sure who took this picture of Henry taking the picture of the other three – I’m guessing maybe Elliot Roberts? He managed all these artists and many others, but more important, was a dear friend to these folks in particular. If anybody was going to ride knee-to-knee on a 3 hour ride from LA, Elliot would be a good fit.
….and the aforementioned cover photo of CSN. Big Bear is an interesting place, a ski resort high above the southern California desert: down one side of the mountain is the San Bernardino National Forest, and down the other is Joshua Tree. A half hour from this spot on this very day, they could just as easily have taken a photo poolside.
