Rock and roll oboe!!! It’s easy to think that Bowie cornered the market for weird glam, but in 1972, Roxy was both weirder and glammer. This is the rare 6-minute version posted by Bryan Ferry himself, and includes a classic Brian Eno synth freakout…and so much more.
Incredible to imagine that this was mainstream music (this album went Gold in the UK, peaking at #10, and even crazier that this was mainstream TV.
Taken by Mick Rock in the lobby of London’s Rainbow Theatre before their concert together began, also featuring Mike Oldfield, Robert Wyatt, and Rabbit Bundrick. Another photo from this set was used for the cover of the terrific live album recorded at this show.
Roxy Music: Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera, Rik Kenton at the Royal College Of Art in London, July 5 1972 by Brian Cooke. (That photoshoot where Ferry was sure he was gonna out-glam Eno this time. WRONG AGAIN)
